MRG: a new certification for the German market

It is the KTW-BWGL and it will soon become indispensable for many companies exporting to Germany

Save the date: March 21st, 2021

From March 21st, 2021, a new regulation will come into force in Germany: KTW-BWGL certification will be mandatory to export to the German market products that come into contact with drinking water. The certification is issued directly by the German Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt, or UBA), it completely replaces the previous regulations on the German market.

Not having this certification means foreclosing on an important market in terms of size and strategic value.

All companies that sell products in contact with drinking water on the German market must therefore hurry to comply with the new legislation. This is why it is essential to immediately check if the components chosen for your products meet the new parameters, more stringent and stringent than in the past. Paying particular attention to these two aspects:

The new legislation applies to all plastics and organic materials in contact with drinking water, including silicone (hitherto excluded from the revision).

It provides for a mandatory passage of the 3.1 certificate instead of 2.2 for brass alloys, in order to verify the composition of the material being accepted (the UBA has made available a list of approved alloys).

MRG: a strategic partnership (even for compliance)

MRG already has 2 certificates issued by DVGW, for its stainless steel hoses:

According to the German legislation, its products fall into the P1 classification, i.e. product with more than 10% of the surface in direct contact with water. In addition, MRG uses metal alloys already approved by the UBA:

Continuous attention to product certification

To ensure perfect compliance with the required regulations, MRG urged the release of the certification updated to the new parameters.

The certification process involves sending an official renewal application to the body in Germany (which took place in recent months), then the audit visit is carried out by an accredited laboratory to verify that all the declared components correspond and comply with what is indicated.

The inspection visit will take place at the beginning of February.

The new MRG “DVGW EPX” certificate will be valid for five years, with an annual inspection visit to ensure continued adherence to the required standards.

The new certification is added to the long list of those already obtained by MRG, which ensure our partners not only adherence to the highest quality standards in materials and manufacturing, but also the certainty to fulfill all the formalities required by the international markets.
